As a date, Boni’s now husband, took her to hike Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire. She was “hooked on him and hiking” from that day on. Years later, Boni and her husband have become avid hikers, hiking and backpacking 20+ weekends a year. Mostly Boni hikes around the White Mountains National Forest in New Hampshire and Maine. These mountains and trails often require multiple days to hike them, but that does not stop this power duo.
Boni has many great memories from hiking with her beloved husband over the years, but one of her most meaningful and most memorable hikes was when they did one of their favorite hikes called the Pemi Loop. “This covers 31.5 mile, 11 mountains and over 9,000 feet of elevation gain around the Pemigewasset Wilderness in the White Mountains”. While most people require three days to hike it, Boni and her husband were up for the challenge and decided to hike it all in two days with 28-pound backpacks. Soon after starting the hike, Boni realized that this was going to take a lot out of her to finish. She remembers it being one of the most challenging hikes physically and mentally that she has ever done, but completing it was so rewarding. “If an adventure is a trip with an uncertain outcome, this qualifies because after four miles in I wasn’t so sure I could finish it. This is probably the most rewarding hiking experience I’ve had“.
Boni persevered and now has a great story to tell. The pictures included are those of Boni and her husband on some of their hikes. Boni and her husband also have an Instagram where they document their hikes: @jimandboni.
