National IP Law Firm KDB IP Promotes Four Lawyers

January 25, 2019

BOSTON – Jan. 23, 2019 – National intellectual property boutique Kacvinsky Daisak Bluni PLLC (KDB), announces the promotion of four lawyers to principals:

  • Kurt Lockwood, who is Boston based, has been promoted to senior principal and equity partner
  • Ashley Aminian has been promoted from counsel to principal and is based in Columbus, Ohio
  • Dennis Carleton, previously counsel, assumes his new role as principal, practicing in Pittsburgh, PA
  • Trevor Bannister moves from associate to principal and is based in Pittsburgh, PA

“These lawyers reflect the diversity of innovation among our clients,” said Scott Bluni, managing and senior principal at KDB. “From fintech to medical devices, robotics and healthcare, our lawyers consistently demonstrate top-notch IP work in over a dozen industries across the nation. We’re pleased to have Kurt, Ashley, Dennis and Trevor as principals at the firm and we are looking forward to their continued success.”

These promotions reflect KDB’s growth in priority areas and geographies, with 38 lawyers throughout the United States and offices in Massachusetts, Washington D.C., New Jersey, and North Carolina. KDB offers its lawyers the opportunity to work remotely, with a flexible inter-connected structure.

Kurt Lockwood assumes the role of senior principal and equity partner at the firm. Throughout the tenure of his career, Lockwood has garnered a thorough understanding of the business side of IP, as well as the industries and technologies affecting KDB clients with both in-house and law firm experience. Prior to KDB, Lockwood was VP and Chief Patent Counsel for Endoscopy, Urology & Women’s Health and Interventional Oncology at Boston Scientific.

Ashley Aminian focuses his practice on strategic solutions in the software, mechanical arts, electrical arts and business technology industries. Prior to joining the firm, he was a patent attorney with Kremblas & Foster.

Dennis Carleton has deep experience in the robotics, software, hardware and electronics industries. He often assists clients to identify and design around existing IP roadblocks, helping them avoid costly litigation. Carleton’s practice focuses on patent counseling, drafting and prosecution, trademarks, trade secrets and licensing. Prior to KDB, he was partner at Fox Rothschild, LLP.

Trevor Bannister centers his practice around IP protection and procurement. Before his career in law, Bannister worked as a controls system engineer at BOC Edwards (now IMA Life North America), designing and developing software and control systems for operating pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment.

KDB’s attorneys have all studied or concentrated in fields of engineering and science, establishing a foundation built upon real-life experience in-house and out-house in a variety of industries, including medical devices, healthcare, financial technology, software, hardware, electronics, mechanical engineering and more. In Q4 2018, KDB welcomed the addition of five new lawyers – one principal, one counsel and three associates. See the press release, here.
