KDB Expands to Welcome New Principal Karen Horowitz From Hunter Douglas Inc.

January 31, 2020

PRINCETON, NJ – Jan. 27, 2020 – Intellectual property law firm Kacvinsky Daisak Bluni PLLC welcomes its newest hire in its New Jersey office, experienced IP lawyer, Karen Horowitz as Principal. Joining KDB from Hunter Douglas, Horowitz’s arrival continues the firm’s momentum of strategic new hires.

“We are excited to have Karen join the team in Princeton, New Jersey,” said Dan Daisak, Senior Principal at KDB. “Karen’s years of experience both in private practice and as in-house counsel falls right in-line with the profile we look for in our attorneys so we can continue to provide practical IP advice and counsel to our clients. Karen is a perfect addition to our team at KDB.”

Horowitz arrives at KDB with decades of experience in patent procurement and portfolio management in medical devices, consumer products, child safety devices, and electromechanical technologies. Karen was in-house patent counsel at Hunter Douglas for five years where she supported various product teams with patent preparation, prosecution, and enforcement; litigation counseling; various patent-driven agreements; and IP due diligence for acquisitions.

“I’m excited to join the KDB team and work with top-notch IP professionals and clients with cutting-edge products and ideas,” said Horowitz. “The firm’s structure impresses me as perfect for allowing clients to receive top-rated services.”

Horowitz began her career working for the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a patent Examiner in the medical/surgical art groups. Prior to joining Hunter Douglas Inc., she was Senior Patent Counsel at Johnson & Johnson (formerly Pfizer Consumer Healthcare) for nine years. Karen was in private practice with Pennie & Edmonds and Fish & Neave before going in-house. Horowitz holds a BSE in mechanical engineering from Princeton University and her law degree from Fordham University.

KDB was among the nation’s first law firms to focus exclusively on recruiting and retaining talent regardless of location. Through a nationwide footprint of attorneys, KDB is able to help clients at competitive rates while recruiting experienced IP counsel, most of whom were former in-house counsel, scientists, engineers, and patent examiners.
