KDB is pleased to announce the appointments of Karen Feisthamel, Nick Carr, and Peter Park to firm principals.
Karen has been with the firm since 2015. Both Peter and Nick have been with KDB since 2018. “Each of Karen, Nick and Peter are tremendous assets to the firm and bring different skill sets and experiences to the benefit our clients,” said KDB managing partner Scott Bluni.
Karen has extensive experience with respect to the creation, selection, acquisition, protection, and enforcement of intellectual property rights with a focus in trademarks. Her strategic and pragmatic approach to KDB clients’ needs, wide scope of experience in all areas of intellectual property, in addition to her first-hand understanding of trademark prosecution, makes her a versatile IP practitioner and indispensable business partner to KDB clients. Prior to joining KDB, Karen was senior legal counsel, Intellectual Property, for CVS Health Corporation, where she oversaw and managed all IP issues on an enterprise-wide basis for the Fortune 10 company. In addition to her in-house experience, Karen has practiced intellectual property law at a variety of large firms, as well as served as a trademark examining attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Nick maintains a strategic and thorough intellectual property practice. He has experience working at a boutique patent as well as for the Supreme Court of North Carolina. With an expert background in computer science, Nick acts as a trusted business adviser to KDB clients, specifically Fortune 500 companies. In addition, he is passionate about subject matter eligibility matters and advises clients on this and a broad range of patent matters. Specifically, Nick has experience counselling clients on matters involving cloud, machine learning, cognitive computing, network, semiconductor, analytics, imaging/graphics, distributed computing, augmented/virtual reality, quality assurance systems, Internet applications, security, firmware, memory, and devices.
Similarly, Peter leverages his years of patent procurement, litigation, and counseling experience to obtain positive results for clients in a strategic, pragmatic, and resourceful way. He works closely with patent examiners to streamline the procurement process. Peter utilizes various patent office and examiner-related metrics to formulate and execute efficient prosecution strategies. Peter utilizes his electrical engineering background and knowledge of the ever-changing legal landscape to partner with clients in obtaining patents on various technologies, particularly software and computer-based inventions, that strategically align with their business objectives.
